KOVAI CO MAKES WORLDS LARGEST PERISCOPE

Adding yet another feather to the industrial accompolishments of the city, a local firm has built one of the longest periscope in the world, a 10-metre long instrument for viewing objects inside the prototype fast type breeder reactor (PFBR) being developed at the atomic research station at kalpakkam. Visual education aids pvt ltd (VEA), a kurichi based firm,developed the periscope with a resolution of 0.2mm line at a spacing of 0.5mm. It was dedicated to the bharathiya nabhikiya vidyut nigam ltd (BHAVINI), Kalpakkam. One of the directors of the firm, Mr J.Ravi, said that the instrument has inbuilt light illumination system and motorized light directing system and it can withstand heat over 200 degrees centigrade. "It took us 25 months to build the periscope at a cost of Rs.3.9 crores. They took forward to build more such periscopes to atomic research.....
